A truly unbelievable story: after a car accident, Vicki Carter from the USA was confined to a wheelchair and ate in frustration. When she was very overweight, she began to change her life – and learned to walk again.

A tragic accident in 1999 completely changed Vicki Carter’s life from one day to the next. A drunk driver caught the young American woman – with serious consequences. That’s why she sat in a wheelchair for no less than 17 years and put on more and more weight. When she cracked the 200 kilogram mark, she decided that her life could no longer go on like this, reports “inspiremore.com”. Today you can hardly recognize them. After this incredible transformation, she has 130 kilos less on her hips. And: She can walk again!

Vicki suffered a severe blow of fate

After the serious accident, Vicki had broken both thighs and suffered many fractures. “I had lost so much blood that they told me I couldn’t do it,” she says, looking back. But Vicki fought – and survived. At the time, she came out of the hospital in a wheelchair, which she would not leave for 17 years later. Depression ruled her life, the only relief was food. In 2012, the young mother weighed more than 200 kilograms and decided to pull the rip cord.

In a gym, she met the trainer Jesse James Leyva, who would change her life. Together they worked on their insane transformation. “I worked hard every day from my wheelchair, battling massive pain, crying, blood, sweat and tears,” says Vicki today. When she lost 30 kilograms, she underwent a stomach reduction and so continued to lose weight.

The Texan learned to walk again!

But in addition to weight loss, Vicki was able to reach a second milestone in her life in 2015. After her accident it was said that she would never be able to walk again. But she found a doctor who replaced both her knees – and learned to walk again step by step. When she recovered from the surgeries, her hard work in the gym only really started. In 2016 she was not only on the move without a wheelchair, she had lost a whopping 130 kilograms.

Despite the hard work, Vicki would keep walking this rocky road, she says, if only because of her family and friends. Today she works as a personal trainer herself – and motivates others to do sports. “If I can do it, you can do it too! I did it in a wheelchair, so there are no excuses, ”she says today when her customers’ motivation has fled. We can only say: hats off!
