As I told you in the Boston tours post, it is very simple to get around the city on foot or using public transport. While exploring a new place a little, there is nothing better than making short stops to eat or drink something, right?
I separated some super cute bakeries and cafes to have some snacks or even a very neat brunch. Not all of them are in Boston, but in Cambridge. The two cities are very close and you will end up walking both places if you plan to go there, so be sure to write down the tips 😉
With 6 units in Boston and another 4 in Cambridge, Tatte Bakery is one of the favorite bakeries for residents of those regions. The store was founded by Tzurit, who lived in Israel for a good part of his life and only moved to the United States in 2003. Some of the menu options are inspired by typical Middle Eastern dishes.
Among the most tasty dishes is the fattoush salad, sprinkled with za’atar. It is a super fresh meal and ideal for a hot day. The local cakes and pies also look delicious, many of them with very different combinations of flavors and textures!
Anyone who loves having a cup of coffee in the afternoon cannot miss going to Gracenote Coffee. They are super careful with the choice of grains and also with the entire roasting process. The types of coffees vary regularly, something that makes the environment always interesting for those who live there.
They only have one unit in Boston, and the atmosphere is relatively small and very welcoming. Oh, they also sell some puff pastry, muffins and scones. They are very simple savory and sweet, since their focus is, in particular, coffee.
Bakery and coffee flour
Flour Bakery & Cafe is a local bakery chain with various delicacies spread across Boston. They offer different types of menu for breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. Both their sweets and their snacks are delicious and fresh, since the outlet is always great.
If you want to have a wonderful breakfast, take the opportunity to go to it. Baguettes, brioche, sandwiches, cakes, pies and quiches are just some of the options you will have to choose from. The menu is so varied that you will even be in doubt as to what to eat 😉
Curio is that kind of place that is frequented by city dwellers, but that goes unnoticed by tourists. His environment is very calm and pleasant, even though he is tiny. His decor has a clean style, with Scandinavian touches that make the place super cute.
One of the things you can not miss if you go to Curio are the house waffles. The dough is super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They tend to be creative about flavors, which change over time. Cinnamon and lemon are always among the customers’ favorites.
Being both a restaurant and a cafe, Explorateur has one of the most enchanting environments when it comes to eating places. The decor is a beautiful mix of more classic objects with modern ones, and the red brick walls make the place even more beautiful.
Regarding food, most dishes have a French influence. Their menu goes from brunch to dinner, so you can choose the best time for you to visit Explorateur. For breakfast I recommend the omelet with cèvre, served with spinach, tomatoes and even some baked potatoes.
Avocado toast has become one of the most common dishes on breakfast menus, especially in the United States. If you feel like trying a toast in this style and that is tasty, just go to the Intrepid Cafe. They made a great choice of leaves and spices to compose simple toast with avocado, leaving the most authentic flavor.
Although the toast is delicious, the drinks are the stars of the house. They offer a huge variety of teas, as well as lattes, coffees and three different types of hot chocolates. As for coffees, the used beans are imported from different parts of the world, including Brazil!
Another super cute cafe is Neighborhoods. His menu is very varied, even with vegan options. One of them, for example, is the Garden Of Vegan, a crepe stuffed with mashed chickpeas, carrots, onions, pickles, sprouts and dill.
Crepe is one of the specialties of the house, so they have several filling options. For those who do not have any type of food restriction, the goat cheese crepe with dried cranberries, arugula, nuts and honey is one of the most original flavors of the place. Some drinks they make are seasonal, like blueberry matcha. Be sure to take advantage if you see something from this part of the menu that you like 😉
Who accompanies our non-YouTube videos you know how much Paulo loved tasting khachapuri in Russia, a type of bread stuffed with super traditional cheese from there. To our happiness, Broadsheet Coffee in Boston makes this dish. In the case of this bakery, the khachapuri is filled with feta cheese, spinach, egg and zhug sauce or hot tomato. It won’t be exactly the same as in Russia, but it is a good opportunity for those who have never eaten.
The bakery environment is also cute, with a very simple and minimalist decor. As it is located in Cambridge, many coffee goers tend to spend time there studying. It is a very peaceful and pleasant place to rest for a while.
George Howell Café
The first unit of George Howell Coffee in Boston was located at the Boston Public Market, a super interesting place to visit in the city. There, coffee is a serious matter. The beans used in the cafeteria are roasted by hand daily, guaranteeing the best possible flavor for each type of grain.
If you’re the type who loves coffee, you’ll love getting to know this place. Another good news is that if you love the taste of coffee, you will be able to take a small package of beans to your home. The food served there is pretty basic, like toast and muffins. However, it is worth going to him just for drinks 🙂
The Thinking Cup conquers more and more customers by serving coffee and its variations, in addition to numerous savory options for breakfast. They are also very concerned about serving the best quality coffee possible, so they are always looking for the best suppliers of different beans around the world.
For those who want to have a stronger snack in the afternoon, they offer delicious sandwich options. Vegetarians like me can order the multigrain bread sandwich stuffed with pepper hummus, artichokes, olives, tomatoes, roasted mushrooms and goat cheese!
Boston and other small towns nearby are packed with incredible cafes and super interesting menus. The ones I have listed for you are just a few of the many options. If you also want to know which are the best restaurants in town, just click here 😉
