Paulo and I went to the DOM in São Paulo, the restaurant awarded 2 stars by Michelin and the only one with that title until 2018. The place owns the most expensive PF in Brazil, after all, the creator is the chef Alex Atala. Super known and awarded, the chef proposes a new gastronomic experience with super authentic ingredients of Brazilian cuisine.
But then, is it worth paying so dearly to eat a Done Dish? We went there to find out what is so special about this complete meal and tell all about one of the best restaurants in the world. Especially because, DOM was already in fourth place in the ranking. Connect!
The DOM menu
The DOM is also known for its tasting menu, where you can pay a high price to have the full experience and try many dishes, from the starter to the main course. This option is available for both lunch and dinner, but even so, we chose to order ~ just ~ a made dish, which already comes with LOTS of stuff!
Prices and flavors
The price for the PF, called an executive lunch on the menu, is R $ 98.00 and accompanies an entry, with … ant! Yes, one on top of a piece of pineapple and the other inside a cachaça candy. Paulo loved it, and I, who am a vegetarian, ended up experimenting. It’s quite unusual, mainly because of the texture, but it’s worth a try.
Then, before the PF arrived, a salad was served, to start in a very light way. Along with it came several meals made with manioc, which is one of the basic ingredients of Brazilian food – delicious, and I was already satisfied here!
These entries for me were essential. It is as if I could have tried several possibilities made with cassava at the same time. Together, it accompanied a very good cream that matched the proposal too much!
And finally the PF, which you can choose between fish, chicken or fillet escalope, accompanied by rice, black and carioca beans, kale, farofa and potatoes. There are no vegetarian options on the menu, but I asked them to make kale and farofa without bacon and fried egg instead of meat, and it was all right – positive point here
Paulo has a certainty in life: he prefers black beans! hehe! And really, it’s very tasty. But, the two options came and I think it’s very nice to be able to choose between one or the other.
See people, it’s a lot of food! And they are the most Brazilian and traditional combinations possible, made in a wonderful way. Really, an incredible experience.
The DOM environment
The place is located in Barão de Capanema, in Jardins, in São Paulo. The decor has a lot to do with the proposal of the dishes, after all it is a mix between classic and modern. It is worth remembering that they are dishes with ingredients that tell a lot about the history of Brazil, presented in a contemporary way.
Bonus – cheaper option from Alex Atala
If you want to enjoy Alex Atala’s gastronomy, but do not intend to spend so much, the chef also has another restaurant in São Paulo, which calls Dalva e Dito. There, a portion of bean broth leaves for only R $ 14 ?
So, do you think it’s worth paying R $ 98 for a plate made? Paulo and I recorded the entire DOM experience on this vlog that we did for some places in SP. Comment your opinion there so we know!
