You may never have heard of Egg Cream, but this is a typical New York drink. No, despite the name it does not have eggs in its composition and, to tell you the truth, the recipe is very simple and has only three ingredients: milk, carbonated water and chocolate syrup.
There are two versions of the drink’s origin: the first, and least accepted, is that in the 1880s, the teenager Boris Thomashevsky, pioneer of the theater Yiddish in NYC, tried to reproduce ua drink he had in Paris, the “chocolat et crème”. However, the most accepted origin by historians is that the drink was created by accident in the early 20th century by Louis Auster, owner of a candy store in Brooklyn.

Regardless of the true origin, the fact is that the original egg cream has a particularity: the chocolate syrup needs to be Fox’s U-Bet. In addition, a classic drink needs to be prepared and served immediately well chilled. To make this super sweet treat, just mix all the ingredients very quickly until the froth forms on top.
