Everything You Need To Know Before You Go To Salem

One of the cities that I always wanted to visit and finally managed to fulfill this wish is Salem. It is very close to Boston, so it is a good tour option if you plan to go to the United States and travel through that region. The residents of the city are super receptive and the cuisine of the place will make you want to spend days there.
In addition, the place is beautiful and the houses are super charming. All the streets look like a movie set, you know? As an old city, founded even before Boston, it is full of incredible traditions and stories. I have separated some incredible information and tips about the city for you to fall in love with it as much as I do 😉

The Salem Witches Story

Anyone who has heard of Salem has certainly read something about witches. To understand this relationship, I will explain the context to you. During a very cold winter, one of the families who lived in that area had been attacked by some Native Americans. To complete the situation, the children of these families began to have strange dreams and nightmares because of the stories they heard from slaves. Were you able to imagine the scenario?
Children began to act strangely and the reason they found to justify these behaviors was witchcraft. In 1692 there was a great
trial of women who were appointed as witches, as if it were a witch hunt! People were sentenced without hard evidence and sentenced to death. These trials were only closed when the governor’s wife was considered a witch. He stated that she was not a witch and that, from then on, people would only be condemned if there was evidence that she had actually committed witchcraft. It’s a pretty crazy story, right?
Nowadays, Salem has one of the parties of
Halloween liveliest in the United States. If you’ve always dreamed of attending an American Halloween party, this is the perfect city! The atmosphere of witchcraft spreads throughout the city and everyone gets into the spirit of the party.

I had already advanced this information for you, but it does not hurt to reinforce it. Salem’s cuisine is simply wonderful. As the city is very close to the sea, most dishes are based on Seafood. For those who enjoy this type of freshest cuisine, Salem’s restaurants are paradise.
Paulo and I just went to Tuner’s Seafood, but we wanted to visit several other places. Paulo asked for a fish taco accompanied with guacamole and I for a pasta with tomato sauce and cherry pepper. We both love our choices! In addition to it, two other incredible options are the Ledger Restaurant it’s the Dolly.

As you may have noticed, Salem is a place full of history. For that reason, the museums there are super interesting. For those who were curious to know more about the history of witches, the Salem Witch Museum is one of the best options. Adult tickets cost $ 12! Those who enjoy art will also love to know the Peabody Essex Museum. AN his entrance is a little more expensive, costing $ 20.
Unlike most museums, it was divided by regions of the world and with a very different way of displaying the pieces. You see a lot of things at the same time, but you still don’t get tired or bored.
Last, but not least, the The House of Seven Gables. These triangular topped houses served as inspiration for a book of the same name, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The house was also a museum and the money from the tickets was converted into aid for immigrants arriving in the region. Worth a visit, and admission is around $ 16 🙂

Even though it is a small town, the variety of shops in Salem is wonderful. THE Ye Olde Pepper Company cannot be left out of your script. It was the first candy and candy production company in the United States, founded in 1806. The two most iconic sweets there are Gibralters and Black Jack.
AN Houswitch Home + Healing it is another store that cannot be missed. They sell candles and various products in order to make the environments more pleasant or to make you feel good, you know? Besides them, those who enjoy handmade beauty products will love to know the Artemisia Botanicals. If you are interested in getting to know pieces by local artists, Artist’s Row is the ideal store!
