When they have a cold, many people swear by various home remedies. A selection of the most effective can be found in the following tips.
In autumn, many have their first colds. This is an inflammation of the nasal mucous membrane, which in many cases occurs as part of a cold. In such a case, the runny nose usually does not have to be treated with medication, as the cold usually heals spontaneously. To alleviate the unpleasant symptoms of a cold, you can use tried and tested home remedies.
These home remedies can help
To clear the nose, inhalations have proven effective in the case of a cold. Put a handful of chamomile flowers in a bowl and pour boiling water over it. Place your face over the bowl, place a towel over your head, and breathe the steam in through your nose and out through your mouth for around ten minutes. This not only clears your nose, but also has a disinfectant effect. Repeat inhalation several times a day. As an alternative to chamomile flowers, you can also take thyme, fennel or an essential oil, for example.
You should also drink enough fluids if you have a cold. In addition to water, hot teas such as lime blossom or elderflower tea are ideal. And of course the classic home remedy for colds should not be missing, the hot chicken soup, which is supposed to fight inflammation and let the nasal mucous membrane swell.
There is still something to consider
Otherwise, if you have a cold, you should make sure that you take it easy and do not exert yourself too much. Additionally, keep yourself warm, get enough sleep, and try to avoid stress. Also, make sure that the air in the room is not too dry. You can increase the humidity by, for example, placing a small bowl of water on the heater or hanging up a damp towel.
