In these hot summer days, nothing better than ice cream, right?
Eating ice cream is delicious, it gives you a good refreshment! But in compensation, photographing ice cream – which is no longer an easy task on “normal” days, on days like this it gets even more difficult. On days when the temperature exceeds 30ºC, we use some devices to make the photo come out as expected.
With the camera positioned on a tripod, assemble the entire photo scene first. I often use a mock up, which is a scenic ice cream. If necessary, I make a fake ice cream with fat and sugar until it gets the color and texture of the original ice cream.
Sometimes the ice cream is so similar, that it is not even necessary to replace it with the real ice cream at the time of the click, but most of the time, after everything is adjusted, the ball of fake ice cream is exchanged for one of the real ice cream to give more realism to the photo.
I also like to create new flavors of ice cream, but I don’t always make them from the beginning. Most of the time, I buy a jar of vanilla ice cream, and create new flavors with this base.
Today’s was green tea, wasabi and sake.
I just made the amount that would serve – two people:
- 6 scoops of vanilla ice cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered green tea
- 1 dessert spoon of wasabi
- 2 tablespoons of sake
- 1 dessert spoon of sugar syrup
Mix well and place in the freezer until it has a firm consistency.
It is smooth, slightly spicy and super refreshing!
