You probably know it, I sew and make sewing tutorials sometimes. As you can imagine, my apartment looks like a real workshop when I prepare my DIY DIY. But something new has slipped into my hands: I started knitting!
Knitting: my first steps
It all started at the perch, a Thursday afternoon in June when we were waiting for the sun. The workshop of the day: knitting by We are knitters. The rain was falling quietly that day and we were all well installed on the panoramic terrace of the Parisian café, sheltered from the drops but in the fresh air. The atmosphere was quite magical.
Then I was handed over two giant chopsticks and a huge ball of yarn. I was disillusioned!
Alberto, co-founder of We are knitters, walked over and in English with Spanish touches, he asked if I needed help. Phew! “Ouiiiiiii, I don’t know how to knit” I said, sweeping my gaze over the assembly who knitted easily while chatting. Alberto took the ball and started to show me how Cast on 14 stitches, make a straight stitch line and then purl a second (stockinette stitch).
And I started. An hour later, my knitting was already starting to take shape (thank you big needles). I had to run away to go to my workout. But during my bike session – mats – arms – thighs – abs – glutes, I remembered the gestures learned a few hours before for fear of forgetting them.
A few stretches and a shower later, I returned to my ball. In short, I was addicted!
Knitting: my summer activity!
It must be said that compared to my usual manual work, knitting has the advantage of being a silent activity (my neighbors are delighted to learn that I am temporarily leaving my drill). Also, once the movements have been learned, it is easy to knit in the metro and in front of the television. Unlike sewing, knitting does not require you to devote your full attention to it. An activity well compatible with Madame I do 1000 things at the same time.
This is how the next day my wool snood was ready for use. And despite the sun returning, JC grabbed it and decided it was his. So I quickly ordered new We Are Knitters balls here. And I went on vacation with a whole basket of balls!
I will not risk sourcing elsewhere because I loved the softness of their cotton and I appreciated the quality of the wool. The huge needles allow you to knit at the speed of light and the chunky stitch is so beautiful.
Next challenge make my own pouf knitted ? In any case, it will be a question of bringing the knitting into my interior. To be continued …
