Women have menstrual periods for around 3,000 days in their lives. The female period is not only associated with a loss of blood, it also costs money. A British study has now examined the real costs.
The female period. In most cases women are happy when she comes on time. Sometimes it is inconvenient and for many women it is unfortunately associated with pain or other ailments. But it is always one thing: namely expensive. The British discount portal “VoucherCodesPro.co.uk” has now carried out a study on the questions of costs, which “stylebook.de” summarizes. And that brings together quite a bit.
Unfortunately, periods are sometimes associated with discomfort. Here are a few eating tips that can help.
These 7 eating tips relieve menstrual cramps
Many things have an impact on our period: stress, our emotional state, but also food. We’ll tell you which foods you can use to avoid cramps, bloating and the like.
Over 2,000 participants
2,134 women were interviewed as part of the study. 77 percent of the participants said that their periods lasted five days or more. A substantial 91 percent required regular pain relievers because of their associated menstrual cramps. Slightly more than half of the girls and women used tampons, around a third used pads and pads. Only around six percent trust a menstrual cup. Using this information, you can calculate the average cost of the period fairly precisely.
You can also shorten your period.
This is how you can shorten your period!
The period does not always come in handy in everyday life. All the better that it can be shortened. We’ll tell you how to do it here.
The individual costs
Those who use tampons, sanitary towels or panty liners pay roughly the same, those who use the menstrual cup get away much cheaper, because they cost around ten to 15 euros and can be used for five to ten years. But for many women, for example, the costs for painkillers or other medication needed during this time are added. Depending on the preparation, the costs can vary greatly. And then there are other expenses that could be described as “indirect costs”. In other words, the money that is spent on chocolate, chips, magazines or other forms of self-reward, for example, or on underwear that has to be replaced after the bleeding. These factors must also be taken into account when calculating the average cost.
That speaks for a menstrual cup.
That’s why the menstrual cup makes sense
Many women do not even know they exist – the menstrual cup has many advantages. The five best arguments at a glance.
The average cost
The concrete figures of the monthly average costs are as follows in the study: Accordingly, 14.37 euros are due for all necessary hygiene items, 8.84 for new underwear, 4.97 euros for medication, 9.39 for sweets or other “consolation donors” and 7.74 euros for other expenses related to the rule. If you extrapolate that to the year, you get around 540 euros. On average, a woman goes through around 450 monthly cycles in her life, which adds up to the total costs to around 20,400 euros, not including the inflation rate. That corresponds to the new price of a small car!
An unjust tax
Incidentally, all participants were in favor of hygiene products such as tampons being offered more cheaply. That would be easily possible if the VAT rate on these products were reduced. Tampons and sanitary towels are fully taxed in England and also in Germany, in other words with the VAT rate of 19 percent in Germany. They are therefore subject to the same taxation as luxury and pleasure products, although they are required for feminine hygiene.
Countries like India, Canada or Australia have already significantly reduced the tax rate for these products. Against the of another British study from 2017, this should actually be a matter of course. This states that about ten percent of all girls and young women in England cannot afford tampons or pads and therefore sometimes miss school lessons, for example. A tax cut would be an important and long overdue step.
Sometimes the period does not go away. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are pregnant.
The period is missing – that could be the reason
When we have it, we complain – but it stays out, also: That could be the reason for the missed period.
