How about enjoying this weekend with a mini marathon of movies and criminal series on Netflix? I selected 2 incredible productions based on real events: a 2 episode miniseries and a documentary divided into 10 chapters. Anyone who likes investigation and good criminal cases will surely love it!
Making an Assassin
You must have heard of it, right? Making a Murderer is a documentary so extensive and incredible that it became a series. The production tells the story of Steven Avery, an American who spent 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. The failure of the State generates great repercussions and the case becomes famous throughout the country. After being released and about to receive compensation, Steven becomes the main suspect in the murder of journalist Teresa Halbach.
The series is super tense and with many twists and turns in this second trial. You look forward to watching each of the 10 episodes and want to crack the case anyway. It is super worth watching and learn a little more about the super detailed judgments in the United States.
Christopher Jefferies’ lost honor
The story is based on a real case: the murder of architecture student Joanna Yeates (Carla Turner). The main suspect is a former teacher of the young woman, Christopher Jefferies (Jason Watkins). Thanks to his eccentricity, Jefferies ends up being condemned by the press and the entire population of Clifton, in Bristol, and suffers several accusations and attacks. The pressure on the professor is enormous, and just to give you an idea, the suspect sues eight British newspapers for defamation.
Want one more reason to watch? Actor Jason Watkins won Bafta, one of England’s top awards, for the role.
Note: Sorry guys, I just found the trailer in English 🙁
Between Secrets and Lies
The film is a little older, from 2011, but even so it is indispensable for those who love a good criminal history. To begin with, the cast features Ryan Gosling, Kristen Dunst and Frank Langella. Forget the good guy side that Ryan usually plays, in this story he plays the character David Marks, son of one of the most influential men in the New York real estate market of the 1980s, the businessman Sanford Marks (Frank Langella).
Marks marries Katie Mars (Kristen Dunst) and goes to live with her in the countryside. After some problems (mainly financial), the two return to NY and there begins a somewhat troubled life for the couple. The film is based on the true story of Robert Durst, accused of killing his wife.
Watch and then tell me what you think!
