Mount Elbrus: Lots of Snow on the Highest Mountain in Europe

Mount Elbrus: Lots of Snow on the Highest Mountain in Europe

Our latest program in the #DescubraRussia series is on the air and of course I would not fail to share all the details here on the website 😉 There were 20 episodes, almost a month in the country and many, many incredible discoveries and learnings. There were many days of study, a thousand strokes, but in the end the experience of knowing such a place was worth every second!
And as we couldn’t visit Russia without seeing snow, our last day had a strategic stop at Mount Elbrus which is no less than the highest mountain on the whole European continent. There are 5,642 meters of altitude, but we “only” climb almost 4,000 m.
We woke up early, because adventures like this require some effort, right? We spent the night in Nalchik, capital of the Russian Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria which is about 3 hours drive from Monte. Before we went up everything, we stopped by Narzan Ticket which has one of the most beautiful natural landscapes that we saw throughout the trip. More than that, they say that the water in this “village” is great for health and of course we tried it – but can I talk? It tastes weird!
The second stop was a ski rental shop. Although we already had our own coat, we also needed appropriate boots, thermal pants, hats, goggles and, of course, the ski itself!

Despite all the paraphernalia, the great instructor and my desire to learn to ski, it didn’t happen for me, haha! No kidding, this is one of the most difficult sports in life and I really couldn’t go much further than “standing up”. Paulo had already “walked” once and went up a lot, but still he didn’t avoid a tumble (I don’t even comment on myself)!
We had a lot of fun there and I highly recommend the tour to anyone in the region. We didn’t even reach 4,000 meters, but still the view we had was surreal, very impressive indeed! It was worth every tumble and tiredness!

From there, we went to a hotel at the foot of the mountains, which was very incredible, AzauStar. In addition to the entire wood paneling and the shared social area between 3 rooms with a delicious fireplace, the hotel has a fascinating view! The rooms are more like chalets, because they are huge and very comfortable. We stayed in one with 2 bathrooms and a mini library on the second floor, really wonderful!

The food also left nothing to be desired, quite the contrary! We repeated the dose from the previous night and we were delighted with the Khatiny – for those who want to know what I’m talking about, check out the last post 😉 Paulo also ordered a typical dish from the Caucasus region, the Chachlik. The meat is lamb and the preparation is “like” a barbecue. The one in the hotel’s restaurant came with several toasted and very well seasoned vegetables!
And after that day and that intense trip, we had to enjoy the sauna at the hotel that was only ours! In addition to the wet, dry sauna, thousand showers and a huge swimming pool with multiple functions, we ended the day by lighting up the fireplace, eating good cheeses, drinking good wine and with a surreal view of the mountains. Nothing better for the last vlog of this wonderful trip, isn’t it?
I hope you enjoyed this Russian season with us and that our tips will help those who are planning to visit this amazing place! Be sure to check out all the vlogs on the channel and the posts here on the site, ok?
