Paulo and I ended up waking up a little later on the third day of the trip (and second tour) in St. Petersburg, so we decided to take brunch at Pkhali Khinkali. The place specializes in georgian food, a country very close to the south of Russia. From 10am to 12pm they only serve breakfast and that’s why I ordered scrambled egg with tomato and dill and Paulo a combo with Khachapuri, which is basically a bread stuffed with egg and cheese. Both dishes were incredible!
If you have watched the videos, you know that we decided to meet some Brazilians living in Russia. Our second meeting was with César Camargo, an opera singer who has lived there for seven years. He was called by Mariinsky Theater to audition in the country, after discovering it through a video on YouTube. Can you believe he went there without knowing any Russian and now speaks the language? He currently works at the Zazerkalie Theater, so you can see him performing if he goes to the city 😉
The restaurant chosen for our lunch was the RA Family. The menu is entirely vegan and their proposal is to serve Raw food. Paulo didn’t like it very much, but I confess I loved it! I believe it depends a lot on your taste in food and the choice on the menu, of course. Ah, if you go there, be sure to try the shot of ginger, beets and honey and also the masala tea with coconut milk 🙂 And if you like places with a cute and cool decor, it’s also worth the visit!
On the first day of the trip we went to a “street market” and a more traditional market, but it is obvious that we would not fail to enter a common supermarket and buy various nonsense, right? We were choosing the products for their packaging (like the super cute teas) and for what seemed to be more bizarre: fish snacks, dehydrated fruits of all kinds, honey pringles, crab snack…
There were some things that we didn’t even risk eating like the ones huge dark mushrooms It is like dozens of pickle variations! Of course, you don’t have to do something crazy on your trip to Russia and that’s why we tell you what’s worth or not worth proving in this video 😉
And since we enjoy ending the day by eating well, we chose to have dinner at Polniy Balet mainly by wonderful selection of desserts (house stars) that I was dying to prove. I wanted so much, but so much to try the sweets that I went to the place already knowing that they would have no option of vegetarian dishes. I ended up eating just a little salad and Paulo didn’t like the dish that much.
According to him, the vinaigrette with herring was more or less, but this is because the flavors he felt were really quite different than what we are used to. Sometimes our first experience is somewhat impactful, right? The tip, then, is to go for a coffee and end up with sweets!
But let’s get down to business? The desserts were really worth it. We chose two options recommended by the waitress who served us – by the way, talk to local people for the best tips, see? The first was a coconut mousse with passion fruit jam and tabasco. The jam was just in the middle of the mousse and this combination of flavors is not wrong, right? Now, the tabasco was very delicate, but it brought a spicy touch that made all the difference!
The second choice was also a Mousse, but that was of chocolate with crispy chocolate and salted chocolate caramel. This is surreal, intense in measure, you know? I can’t even describe it properly because I never ate anything like that, really! This is a place that everyone in love with sweets needs to know, after all, the pastry chef Ilnaz Iskakov is always changing the menu and bringing new techniques and flavors.
Through this vlog you can see how much we enjoy trying new flavors and having unforgettable gastronomic experiences, right? I know you are one of those too and to check all the details of these places just watch the full vlog down here 😉
