Stock Footage: Chef

The Latin songs and cut scenes in which the chef’s nimble hands cut an onion here and scrape the peels of an orange there while dancing between the pans are excuses for not taking your eyes off the first minutes of the movie Chef, which premiered in August this year here in Brazil.
As soon as I saw the movie trailer, I counted the days to go back to the cinema and delight in Jon Favreau’s newest film. In addition to producing and directing the feature, Favreau plays the main character in the story. He is Carl Casper, a renowned chef but a little bit out of the digital and food news. In the exquisite restaurant where he works, in Miami, he decides to update the menu with more daring dishes. The problem is that the owner of the place (Dustin Hoffman) is against this decision to the last hair, and does not change his mind even when he learns that the most popular gastronomic critic of recent times is to visit them.

Afraid of being fired, Carl reproduces the usual menu to the guest. The critic does not forgive anything. It mistreats from the boiled egg with caviar at the entrance to the petit gâteau de chocolate, making a point of humiliating the chef for the whole internet.
From there, the story takes a crazy turn. The chef follows his heart (and the tip of his ex-wife) and starts selling the food he believes to be really attractive and delicious in a trailer, along with his friend and son. (Whoever smelled “Food Truck” raises his hand …)

Among these and others, Scarlett Johansson plays the role of a colorful friend and hostess of the chic restaurant. And nothing more. In the film, she appeared just to add a touch of sensuality – even with Sofia Vergara’s cat in the role of cute ex-wife. Robert Downey Jr. does the same: he appears in a random scene and certainly participated in the film to support Favreau, who had directed the two “Iron Man”.

The most interesting thing in the film is the way in which Jon Favreau combines the chef’s relationship with food and son. He even cooks with his eyes closed and, on the other hand, he is not sure how to relate to the little one. In addition, the film follows a lively and lively Latin rhythm. Great choice for the weekend!
Ah, the critic? Wait for him to come back.
