Although the path is complicated, traveling through Carretera Austral was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had in my life. It is a super different way to get to know Chile, mainly to enjoy wonderful landscapes and visit small towns, which are not usually part of tourist routes.
To complete the entire route, or at least most of it, it is necessary to make a few stops along the journey. As the road is very long, some parts do not have any type of accommodation, so it is important to go with everything scheduled. With that in mind, I will share with you some of the best hotels there 😉
Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa
One of your first stops can be made at Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa, which is in Puyuhuapi. The place is cute and very cozy. Because it is a spa and has thermal pools, it is perfect for those who are looking for a very relaxing space that is not just a passing accommodation.
To get to the hotel it is necessary to take a boat from the central village of Puyuhuapi, but this can be resolved when booking the accommodation. Several attractions of Carretera Austral are close by, such as Queulat National Park!
Cerro Negro Lodge
Down a few kilometers from Carretera Austral is the Lodge Cerro Negro. The architecture of the accommodation is super charming, with a modern design, but at the same time refers to old buildings because of the wood. They have four different room types, one of which is the bungalow.
In the case of this type of accommodation, they are outside the main building and have a more rustic feel, because even the interior of the room has wooden walls. If you plan to stop in Coihaique, this is a great hotel option.
Terra Luna Lodge
I confess that Paulo and I were very cold in Terra Luna Lodge’s room. However, still, we like the space of the accommodation as well as the location of the hotel. We stayed in a room that had a surreal view – I would spend hours looking at it without getting sick.
Even if your cabin does not have a view of Lake General Carrera, you can view the landscape in the restaurant or other common areas of the lodge. Ah, in case you want to explore the region a little, Terra Luna offers some tour options that can be purchased on the spot.
Mallin Colorado Ecolodge
Mallin Colorado was one of the best hotels we stayed at during the trip. The room was very nice and also had an incredible view. Talking to one of the employees of the place, I realized that they are super concerned with offering tourists and travelers a different experience than we are used to.
For breakfast, for example, I ate musket jelly, which is a typical flower from the region. They don’t want it to be a standard service and to eat the same as the rest of the world, you know? I highly recommend the stay for both the environment and the service!
Lodging in the Chacabuco Valley
Another cool place to spend the night or stay for more than a day is the Lodge at Valle Chacabuco. It is only open from October to April, so it is only valid if you plan to visit Carretera Austral at this time. Even so, I decided to mention it because it is a very nice hotel with a beautiful decoration.
Those who enjoy more cozy spaces with a very traditional style will love the place, especially because of the wooden details and sofas and armchairs scattered in the main room of the hotel. Since there are only 10 rooms available, I recommend that you contact the hotel soon if you are interested in staying there.
Robinson Crusoe Deep Patagonia
To close your trip in a wonderful way, Robinson Crusoe Deep Patagonia is one of the best alternatives. The entire hotel staff welcomed us very well and every detail of the room left us delighted – from the heater that kept the room warm, to the food in the restaurant.
It is difficult to feel at home being away, but I had that feeling when I stayed there. The location is also incredible, as it is in Villa O ‘Higgings, known as the end point of Carretera Austral. After a few hardships on the way, there is nothing better than a good place to rest, right?
Don’t forget that as you descend the Carretera Austral, the climate tends to get colder and colder. If you want to know what are the essential parts for this trip just click here. Ah, you can watch a little bit of our experience over there on the channel 😉
