It is always a challenge to discover the origin of some recipes. Think of the cupcake, for example. The answer seems obvious, since “ah! These dumplings were invented some time ago (where? In the UK or the USA?) And have this name because they are baked in cups (or cups, in English). But I just discovered another version of this story, proven by the Oxford Companion to Food, by author Alan Davidson. He says that cupcakes are called that because of the measures of the recipes, which generally asked for so many “cups” of flour, sugar, milk or butter.
Another cool thing is that the famous / very cute / highly acclaimed cupcakes are not recent at all! There are cookbooks dating from 1796 (!!!), like the “American Cookery”, written by Amelia Simmons. In addition, there are records that they began to be traded after World War I (1914).
I imagine that this bla bla bla has aroused a desire for cupcakes, right? ICKFD has separated 10 recipes that will make you have fun in the kitchen. Choose the one you prefer and be sure to tell us about the final result. Good baking!
The last is a delicious surprise, a mixture of bonbons and cupcakes. And who doesn’t like both? Perfect to give as a gift: strawberry candy cupcake.
